The Strategic Assessment of the St. Louis Region
The Where We Stand (WWS) series produced by East-West Gateway (EWG) has compared the St. Louis region to other large metropolitan areas since 1992. WWS ranks St. Louis among the 50 most populous Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSA) in the United States (the peer regions) on a broad range of topics important to the region.
In November 2024, EWG published the ninth edition of WWS, with an accompanying suite of additional resources. WWS 9 is intended as an introduction to a larger conversation about where we as a region stand, where we are going, and how we plan to get there together.
We invite you to explore the website to find resources that can serve as the basis for conversation, ways to get involved, and reports highlighting the programs already building a successful St. Louis.

Review of Data Working Papers
This series of working papers provides documentation on data points used to measure regional success, including methodological issues and nuances that affect how the data should be interpreted and used, key information about these topics, peer regional analysis, and analysis of the St. Louis region. We hope these will serve as a useful tool for our partners as together we put data to work to make a successful St. Louis.

Case Studies of Peer Regions
In these papers, we take a closer look at how some of the peer regions came to experience a specific outcome, weigh the influence of local decisions, and ask whether effective decisions in other regions can be emulated here in St. Louis.
Review of the Regions (coming soon)
In this report, EWG research staff reviewed data for the 50 peer regions individually. There is a brief overview of each of the peer regions, including demographic and employment data that is important context for analysis and a description of at least three strengths and three challenges for each region.
