The City of O’Fallon, Illinois was founded in 1854 and now lies 18 miles east of St. Louis, and just 5 miles north of Scott Air Force Base.
The project area extends along 3.9 miles of Illinois Route 50 between Interstate 64 and Scott Troy Road. It also includes about a half a mile of the main north/south intersecting spine, Lincoln Avenue, between the library (south of Rout 50) and O’Fallon’s historic downtown district just to the north. East West Gateway, working with the City of O’Fallon, key stakeholders, and the broader community, facilitated a planning process to better align Route 50 with a recently updated comprehensive city plan, its emphasis on the “15 minute city”, and the many development opportunities along the roadway. Once one of the first Illinois state highways and US routes, the construction of Interstate 64 just to the south fundamentally changed the function of the roadway. As the community has grown along Route 50, local mobility and community friendly development needs set the stage for the Great Streets planning effort. Completed in June, 2024, the Forward 50 plan for O’Fallon will help guide decisions and investments to solidify the roadway as a thriving, active, and safe asset for the people who live in and visit O’Fallon.
