In 2009, East-West Gateway Council of Governments (EWG) completed the first round of Great Streets demonstration projects which included Natural Bridge Road in St. Louis County. The round one projects were funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
Natural Bridge Road is located in St. Louis County, Missouri. The corridor spans several communities in the northern part of the county. EWG in collaboration with St. Louis County, North County Incorporated, MoDOT, the city of Normandy, and University of Missouri – St. Louis (UMSL), and other key stakeholders developed a plan for Natural Bridge Road. The goal of the communities involved in the planning process was to identify economic and infrastructure related issues that impact market conditions in the Natural Bridge Road corridor and identify changes in the corridor that would guide future investment. The planning process for the Natural Bridge Road project included visioning sessions, community engagement and feedback, an examination of existing conditions (e.g. social and economic conditions, zoning, land uses, infrastructure), and recommendations regarding improvements to infrastructure and other public places such as roadways, streetscapes, landscapes, and lighting within the corridor.
