In 2013, East-West Gateway completed the second round of Great Streets demonstration projects, which included Dorsett Road in Maryland Heights. The round two projects were funded through federal transportation planning grants and local funds provided by the project sponsors.
Dorsett Road is located in the city of Maryland Heights in St. Louis County, Missouri. EWG in collaboration with the city of Maryland Heights, St. Louis County, the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), and other key stakeholders developed the Dorsett Great Streets Master Plan. The city of Maryland Heights’ goal for the planning process was to identify the improvements that the city could make to strengthen the economic vitality of the Dorsett Road corridor, enhance the visual and functional qualities of the road, improve environmental conditions and stormwater management practices, and create a true multi-modal district within the city. The planning process for the Dorsett Road project included business and community engagement and feedback, an examination of existing conditions (e.g. land use and zoning, aesthetics, parks / open space, environmental conditions, transportation), a market study / economic analysis, and recommendations regarding improvements to infrastructure and other public places such as roadways, transit, streetscapes, and landscapes within the corridor.
