For over 30 years, East-West Gateway has been taking stock of how the St. Louis region stacks up against the rest of the country through the publication of its signature Where We Stand (WWS) publication. The report compares the St. Louis region to the 50 largest metropolitan statistical areas in the United States on a host of key topic areas and metrics. In November 2024, EWG released the ninth edition of the report, which is available online at www.ewgateway.com/wws.
WWS contains data detailing the St. Louis region’s strengths and weaknesses as well as insightful analysis on what defines success for a region. As part of the ninth edition, the East-West Gateway research team is preparing supplemental materials to provide additional in-depth resources for understanding our region.
Among these resources is a new WWS Review of the Regions digital document that further profiles each the 50 largest US metropolitan areas in the Where We Stand report. The new document contains 2-page data profiles for each metropolitan area that highlight particular successes and challenges, and how they relate to similar St. Louis region statistics. The profiles of these regions provide greater context for the WWS rankings and reveal the variety of paths that metro areas have taken to pursue regional success.
