On November 19, 2024, Housing First STL hosted a report-out on the outcomes of its previous October 21 summit and Oct. 23-25 practicum. The event, hosted at The Hub at Tabernacle Church, featured opening remarks from St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones and East-West Gateway Council of Governments Executive Director Jim Wild, as well as a presentation and remarks from a variety of providers and funders about the initiative.
The event further introduced an ambitious roadmap to solving homelessness across the region.
Here are links to the presentation and the blueprint released during the event. We encourage you to read them and share them with your community, because everyone has a stake in solving homelessness in the St. Louis region.
Both above resources detail the work needed to build a regional system of care that offers immediate relief and solutions ensuring that homelessness is a brief and rare experience rather than a persistent struggle. The system will ensure no one has to sleep on the streets and everyone receives the support needed to stabilize and enhance their wellbeing.
There are two key next steps:
- Continue engagement of government agencies, business leaders, philanthropic organizations, service providers, and communities affected by homelessness to build momentum and more vital bridges across sectors and jurisdictions.
- Establish an anchor organization to champion the initiative, host a governance structure, and serve as the primary connector to the many groups vital to solving homelessness.
You can read all of the steps in the report on pages 6-10. About 90 people attended the report-out. You can read more about the event’s call for regional action in this Tony Messenger St. Louis Post-Dispatch column and in the St. Louis Daily, a digital publication of St. Louis Magazine.
