The East-West Gateway Map of the Month for March depicts the number of construction permits issued for new privately-owned residential units in the United States by county for 2022. The data come from the Building Permits Survey conducted by the Census Bureau. Data are available monthly, year-to-date, and annually at the national, state, CBSA (formerly MSA), county and place levels. The data does not include any property under renovation or building constructed for the rental market. The counties with the highest total units in the construction pipeline include Maricopa County, AZ (40,104), Harris County, TX (38,787), and Los Angeles County, CA (26,572).
In the St. Louis region, the counties with the most construction permits issued for new privately-owned residential units are St. Charles County (2,603), St. Louis County (1,773), the City of St. Louis (1,176), and St. Clair County (852). The counties with the fewest construction permits issued for new privately-owned residential units include Franklin County (762), Jefferson County (724), Madison County (413), and Monroe County (87).
