East-West Gateway’s January 2021 Map of the Month depicts, by Census tract, the percentage of persons 65 years of age and older who live alone. In 2019, the East-West Gateway region had approximately 414,896 persons aged 65 or older, with approximately 122,373, or 29.4% of them, living in households by themselves. Census tracts with high percentages of older adults living alone can be found throughout the region. There are particularly high percentages in the central corridor of the City of St. Louis where there are several tracts with more than 80% living alone.
