East-West Gateway’s November map of the month depicts the September 2019 to September 2020 percent change in total, non-seasonally adjusted employment for the 50 most populous metropolitan regions in the United States. During this period, all of the regions experienced some loss in total employment. Coastal cities, cities around the Great Lakes, and cities with a high amount of tourism based employment experienced the highest losses, while cities within the interior of the nation experienced fewer loses. The St. Louis metropolitan region saw close to a 6% loss in total employment. For a more in-depth discussion on this topic, join us on Thursday, November 19th for the virtual East-West Gateway (EWG) Annual Meeting. After the award ceremony, EWG research staff will use Where We Stand data to frame a discussion among a panel of local representatives. The discussion will cover how the current recession compares to past recessions, what the impact has been in St. Louis, and how the recession is affecting demographic groups differently. For more information about the meeting and presentation, visit the EWG website.
