The East-West Gateway August Map of the Month depicts the net change in housing units for the region at the block level from 2020 to 2024. A housing unit is defined by the Census Bureau as a house, an apartment, a mobile home, a group of rooms, or a single room that is occupied. Units that are vacant and intended for occupancy are also included. The map includes one dot for each housing unit gained and each unit lost. Altogether, there were an addition of 22,836 units and a loss of 2,801 units. In total, the EWG region had a net gain of 20,035 housing units since the 2020 census, resulting in a current total of 1,184,685 housing units. This map is created using data from the Census Bureau’s Current Address Count Listing Files, which are updated biannually.
