East-West Gateway’s March 2020 Map of the Month depicts the average commute time from home to work, by census tract, for workers 16 years and older who did not work at home. Dots are randomly placed within census tracts to represent the number of commuters within that tract, and the colors represent the average commute time to work for commuters in that tract. Commuters in St. Charles city, the central portions of St. Louis city and county, and the area around Scott Air Force Base have the shortest average commute times in the region, while commuters in the northern portion of St. Louis city and the southern portions of Franklin and Jefferson counties have the longest commute times. Commute times can be affected by mode of transportation and proximity of employment to workers.
