Environment & Community Planner

East-West Gateway Council of Governments (EWG) has an opening for an Environment and Community Planner in the Department of Community Planning.  This position will report to the Environmental Services Manager.  This position will work on planning projects related to local and regional planning, water resources planning, ecological planning and disaster mitigation planning.

The Environment & Community Planner’s responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:  planning projects related to local and regional planning, water resources planning, ecological planning and disaster mitigation planning, specifically implementing grants related to education on stormwater best management practices, tracking and supporting applications for federal and state funding for water quality and water resource planning; working on ecological and resiliency data planning tool development; and contributing to regional hazard mitigation planning efforts.

This position requires considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of environment and community planning.  Additionally, this position requires a working knowledge and experience with the interrelatedness of water quality, water resources, green infrastructure planning and natural disaster mitigation planning.  Knowledge of the methods of data collection and analysis, and experience in the preparation of planning reports and studies as well as working knowledge of GIS technology and application of natural resource mapping in planning projects is required.

The successful candidate will also have organizational skills and the ability to present ideas and findings clearly and concisely in both written and oral form; the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with local government and state and federal agency contacts, and community stakeholders; and the ability to organize and facilitate meetings.

This position requires a bachelor’s degree with major course work in planning, public policy, public administration, political science, or related field and a minimum of 3 years of related professional planning experience; a Master’s degree in a directly related field may be substituted for a maximum of 1 year of experience; or any equivalent combination of directly related education and professional experience.

The salary range for this position is $51,296 to $53,184 annually, with actual starting salary in this range based on background and experience.
