Nationally, the mode of transportation taken most frequently to work is estimated for 160 million people, including those who work from home. Of that total, 13.9 million, or 8.64%, carpool. In the East-West Gateway region, a slightly smaller proportion of workers carpool, 6.51%.
Generally, in the St. Louis region, the counties with the largest percentage of commuters who carpool are Franklin (9.75%), St. Clair (7.94%), Jefferson (6.84%), and St. Louis (6.56%). The counties with the smallest percentage of commuters who carpool are Madison (6.50%), the city of St. Louis (6.16%), St. Charles (5.66%), and Monroe (5.18%).
