East-West Gateway’s November 2022 Map of the Month depicts municipal boundaries of the 193 incorporated cities and villages within the East-West Gateway region as of October 2022. The number of municipalities in the region decreased by one in 2018 after the village of Mackenzie voted to dissolve, reverting to unincorporated St. Louis County. The number was further reduced in 2021 with the merger of Alorton, Cahokia, and Centreville in Illinois to create Cahokia Heights. Wildwood is the largest municipality in the region with an area of almost 67 square miles which is slightly larger than the 66 square miles of the city of St. Louis. The smallest municipality by area is Glen Echo Park with 0.03 square miles. A total of 73 municipalities in the East-West Gateway region have areas under 1 square mile.
