East-West Gateway’s February 2021 Map of the Month depicts the number of available vehicles (automobiles, vans, and trucks of one-ton capacity or less) per household in the St. Louis region. Most households in the region have access to two vehicles (38.2 percent of households) or one vehicle (33.9 percent of households). A smaller percentage of households have three or more vehicles (20.2 percent). These households tend to be located further from the urban core of the region. Less than 10 percent of households (7.7 percent) have no vehicles. Although this is a relatively small percentage of households, it accounts for 80,329 households in the region. These households are more likely to be in or close to the urban core of the region. Considering all households in the St. Louis eight-county region, the average number of vehicles is 1.79 per household. By county, households in Monroe County have the most available vehicles per household with an average of 2.19. The city of St. Louis has the fewest available vehicles with 1.26 per household. On average, households in the urban core of the region have fewer vehicles, while households with more vehicles tend to be in the suburban and rural portions of the region.
