East-West Gateway’s June 2020 Map of the Month shows the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases per 100,000 people, as reported on June 3, 2020. According to data accessed from multiple public health department websites, there have been about 10,180 people infected with COVID-19, with a regional rate of about 390 cases per 100,000 people. The areas with the highest rates of cases are primarily in the northern portions of the city of St. Louis and St. Louis County as well as in portions of St. Clair County. The ZIP code areas with the highest rates tend to be predominantly African American, or to have high concentrations of long-term care facilities. COVID-19 case data by race is available for six of the eight counties. For those counties, African Americans make up 43 percent of positive cases, but only 23 percent of the total population.
