East-West Gateway’s June 2018 Map of the Month depicts the estimated immigrant population by Census tract in 2016. Immigrants are persons who were born outside the United States and now reside in the United States. Fairmont City in St. Clair County has the highest percentage of immigrants of any municipality in the region, with almost 35% of the population being foreign born. Neighborhoods south of Tower Grove Park have historically welcomed large numbers of foreign-born persons, and continue to do so. Several communities in St. Louis County have also attracted a large number of immigrants, including Clayton, South County places such as Affton and Lemay, and West County areas such as Chesterfield, Maryland Heights, and Olivette. Immigrants have settled in every county of the region. Without international migration, the population of the St. Louis region would have declined over the last decade.
